Problem Statement

A lot of people find it hard to book a tour guide. People nowadays rely on their phones more often. It’s boring to go and see historical exhibits without knowing the story behind them.

Goal

Attract tourism all over the world, make touring more fun, and try and make going to exhibits easier for everyone. It will make touring more educational.

Pain Points

User Research

Conducted interviews and empathy maps to understand the users and targeted audience.
From the research, I came to know that, the targeted users are working professionals who love to enjoy history and art, but do not have any idea about it and need someone to explain it to them.
Also, other types of users are those who already have good knowledge about the history, but sometimes they need to seek someone’s help if they want to know more about something in particular.

I have started my project with quantitative research, where I asked the users about the situations or problems they faced during their visit to exhibits. When I started I thought I had to design only the audio tour page by scanning. But after the research, I came to know that users also have problems with the way they need to find out about the particular history in the exhibit. So in the end, I had to come up with different ways to search for an audio tour.

Pain Point 1

Doesn’t like to be tied to a time.

Pain Point 2

Can’t book a tour guide. Doesn’t know how to.

Pain Point 3

Wants to know more about the museum but doesn’t want any distractions.

Pain Point 5

Want to study the art of the exhibition.

Digital Wireframe

Overall we would like to see if there is any problem with the audio navigation or is it hard to navigate the subtitles or any other buttons, especially at the beginning. This will affect the experience of the users with the audio, visuals, and navigation.

When choosing the place of your choice, then you will be met with this page, where you can see the description you choose and can play the audio guide.

Describes the place and also gives you the location

Low-fidelity prototype

You can navigate through the app. By choosing a place to listen to the audio while touring.

Using the completed set of digital wireframes, I created a low-fidelity prototype. The primary user flow I connected was listening to the audio, so the prototype could be used in a usability study.

Usability Findings

This usability study consisted of 5 people, who tried the audio tour guide prototype. Each person was given 4-7 prompts.

1

Create a “sign up” option.

4

Make the comment section smaller, and easier to navigate

2

Make a return button for every page.

5

We should create a search page to avoid complicity.

3

Make the audio bar unremovable.

6

Avoid small buttons

Mockup

Early designs allowed for some customization, but after the usability studies, I added additional options to the Navigation bar.

High-fidelity prototype

The final high-fidelity prototype presented cleaner user flows for finding a museum. It also met user needs for a recommended option.

Accessibility considerations

The final high-fidelity prototype presented cleaner user flows for finding a museum. It also met user needs for a recommended option.

1

Provided access
to users who are vision impaired through adding alt text to images for screen readers.

2

Used icons to help make
navigation easier.

3

Used contrast colors and added subtitles option.

Takeaways

Impact

This audio tour application aims to simplify access to the audio tour, which benefits users its purpose after usability testing. More languages and audio should be added to the prototype for further improvement to create full experiences.

What I learned

this project was a great start for me as an introduction to UX / UI design.
